Hounds Stun 8th-Ranked Saints in Key Finale

INDIANAPOLIS – What Tyler Bernarduci started, Nathan Lam ended in a Saturday thriller those watching will not forget.

The UIndy men's lacrosse team knocked off No. 8 Maryville at Key Stadium on Saturday afternoon by a score of 13-12, as Lam beating Saints' backup goalkeeper Evan Alfano with just 22 seconds remaining. It was Bernarduci that put the Greyhounds in an offensive position, leading the coast-to-coast charge after a CTO+GB behind the team's own net.

The goal gave Lam his seventh hat trick and 30th goal of the season.

INS & OUTS
Lam put the Hounds up three midway through the final frame, taking advantage of the man-up opportunity from an assist by Mason Rockley. The Saints were undeterred, however, scoring three times in under three minutes to even the game at 12 apiece.

After winning its 18th (and final) faceoff, Maryville held possession for the next two minutes thanks to a pair of shots on goal, including AJ Preachuk's 13th save of the afternoon. As the Saints set up their last try before overtime, Bernarduci knocked the ball loose from Trent Zimay and sprinted the length of the field to find Lam on the doorstep. The senior delivered, but TJ Reddington's win at the dot and Mitchell Carik's fifth ground ball sealed the team's first top-10 victory since March 16, 2024, against Rollins.

Carik added a game-high five caused turnovers to his GB count, while Alec Score scooped up eight loose balls himself in the win. Lam, who also assisted on Keegan Laughlin's third-quarter goal, tallied four ground balls on the attack.

Maryville led 6-2 early in the second quarter, before the Hounds rattled off four of the next five goals before halftime. Triston Schaffer accounted for three of those, totaling four of his five in the first half.

INSIDE THE BOX
- Nat Jun carried the bulk of the faceoff attempts (5 for 17) on Saturday with four ground balls, but Reddington saw a higher success rate with a 6-for-12 (.500) effort.
- The Saints turned the ball over 21 times, including seven in the fourth quarter. UIndy was credited with 14 caused turnovers, with Bernarduci and Lachlan Korn joining Carik and Score with multiple.
- Preachuk finishes the GLVC regular-season slate ranked third in goals-against average (8.4) and fourth in save percentage (.548).
- Magnus Salmon opened the game's scoring with his second netter of the season, before assisting on Schaffer's first goal later in the first quarter.
- Schaffer's second-half goal was his 40th of the spring, marking just the fifth time in program history a player has scored at least that many.
