Klemm's Complete Game Pushes Hounds Past William Jewell

LIBERTY, MO. – The UIndy baseball team soared past the Cardinals 12-1 today, giving them their first series sweep of William Jewell since 2019. Today's win also marks the Hounds' largest margin of victory over William Jewell since 2012.

Eight Greyhounds recorded a hit today for UIndy, which is the third time this weekend that the Hounds have had at least seven batters record a hit in a single game.

GAME 4 | UIndy 12, William Jewell 1
The Hounds started this one out quick, getting their first three batters of the game on base before a walk and a hit by pitch brought home the first two runs of the game in the first inning. It was a similar situation in the second inning when the Hounds tacked on five more runs; a Chase Mason walk, a Nick Lukac two run RBI single and a two run Bret Perry hit to the shortstop got UIndy out in front 7-0 after two innings.

UIndy continued yesterday's game three trend of hitting home runs by driving three more runs out in the fifth and sixth innings. Brayton Bowen hit a three run home run to get things going in the fifth before Lukac and Mason both hit solo shots to left field in the sixth to get the Hounds ahead 12-0. Lukac and Mason both capped off stellar weekends with their solo shots today, as both guys combined for 13 hits, 12 RBIs and five home runs in this weekend's four games.

The batting wasn't the only thing that was working for the Hounds, as Frankie Klemm pitched himself a complete game today. Klemm had himself a no hitter going through five innings before Jonah Sanford's lead off single in the sixth inning broke up his no hit bid. Klemm still finished the day only allowing three hits and one earned run while also striking out four Cardinals en route to his first career complete game, and a 12-1 win for UIndy.

Klemm now holds the lowest ERA among all starting pitchers for UIndy with a 3.75 ERA, and is the fourth Greyhound to pitch a complete game this season, joining the company of Bennett Rogers, Dawson Gabe and Diego Cardenas.

UP NEXT
The Hounds will be back at home next weekend for their final home series of the regular season where they will look to clinch their GLVC tournament bid, and possibly a top four seed. The first pitch is at 3 p.m. on Thursday May 1 at Bill Bright Field.
