FISHERS, Ind. – The UIndy triathlon team opened its second season in program history on Sunday morning, placing fourth among six teams at the Geist Triathlon at Geist Waterfront Park.
Sunday's race was a sprint triathlon, with athletes competing in a 500-meter swim, 12.5-mile bike ride, and 3.1-mile run.
North Central won the event, followed by Trine and Northern Kentucky in the top three.
Lillian Sunbury (13th, 1:09.30) finished first among all Greyhounds, crossing the line just three one-hundredths ahead of teammate
Ainsleigh Cardone (14th, 1:09.33). Newcomers
Nadia Beran (17th, 1:12.59) and
Haley Uberta (24th, 1:17.26) impressed in their UIndy debuts with top-25 finishes.
Sydney Rhodehamel (29th, 1:20.03) and
Katie Dolen (32nd, 1:21.27) finished just 61 seconds apart, while
Jazmin-Maria Cardona (38th, 1:32.55) rounded out the team scoring.
Meanwhile,
Gabrielle Harrell,
Geraldine Vazquez, and
Lex Brookshire-Wilhelm competed unattached.
UIndy returns to action Sunday, Sept. 14, at the Lake Davidson Sprint Triathlon in Davidson, N.C.
