ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The UIndy volleyball team got back on track Saturday, earning a pair of victories in sweep fashion on its final day of the Triton Invitational on the campus of Eckerd College.
Â
The Greyhounds held their opponents, Saint Leo and Edward Waters, to four sets of 12 points or less, including each frame in the nightcap. UIndy attacked at an astonishing .551 clip against Edward Waters, its highest hitting percentage in a match since September 2002, in the first-ever meeting between programs.
Â
The Hounds are also now 4-0 all-time against Saint Leo.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Maddie Lynch returned to form on Saturday, recording 19 kills against zero errors (.731 hitting percentage) in the two wins. Overall, 10 Greyhounds tallied a kill, including a match-high 11 from
Maddie Berger against Edward Waters.
Â
The four-headed middle monster of
Kaitlin Fasbender,
Lauren Gips,
Riley Laine, and
Kelsey McKenney totaled 34 kills on the day, adding seven blocks – two solo, five assists – at the net. The UIndy back line scooped up nearly 45 percent of all opponent attack attempts, with libero
Allie Wuestenfeld tallying more than one-third of the Greyhounds' digs.
Â
Carly Fonda and
Claire Morris split the setting duties against Saint Leo, combining for 31 assists, before
Lucia Brown joined her teammates versus Edward Waters. Fonda dished out 15 helpers in each contest, while Brown contributed five service aces and nine assists in the nightcap.
Â
Edward Waters scored just 29 points in the three-set affair, with the UIndy defense limiting it to eight in the final frame. McKenney capped an 8-0 Greyhound run to open that set, with Berger recording back-to-back service aces to put UIndy up by double digits the rest of the way.
