INDIANAPOLIS - The UIndy men's soccer team's four game win streak was snapped on Sunday against Quincy in a back-and-forth 2-1 loss.
This game had a little bit of everything on both sides with a combined 28 fouls, 24 shots, three saves, two yellow cards, and three quality goals. The Greyhounds were held to a season low 11 total shots and two shots on goal in today's game.
The last time both the men's soccer and women's soccer teams lost on the same day at home was Oct. 2, 2016.
HOW IT HAPPENED
This one felt like a GLVC Tournament game from the jump as both teams came out playing very physical and looking to get on the board early. Before the game's first goal was scored, there were a combined nine shots and eight fouls. UIndy managed four of those nine shots, while Keerti Unnamatla made two crucial saves to keep the score level at zero.
Josh Nwosu found the first of his two goals in the 39th minute on a perfectly placed shot from 25 yards out that beat the diving effort of Unnamatla to put the Hawks ahead 1-0. Quincy almost doubled their lead minutes later when Jake Ellis' headed effort hit the crossbar and harmlessly bounced away.
Not many chances were created either way until Nwosu found the Hawks' second goal of the match in the 70th to put Quincy ahead 2-0.
After the second goal, the Hounds piled on the chances in the final 20 minutes, as shots from Colin Elder, Kabiru Gafar, Joey Longo and Sam Siegel were all kept out, but a foul in the box on Roman Beko put Gio Terlizzi at the penalty spot. He capitalized with a bullet to the upper left corner of the goal to set up for a chaotic final five minutes.
The Hounds pushed to get that goal, and almost found it on an Elder chance that just missed the bottom left corner in the 86th minute. But with clearance after clearance from the Hawks they survived the relentless UIndy offensive assault to head out of Key Stadium with a 2-1 win.
