INDIANAPOLIS - The UIndy women's soccer team shined in their 3-0 Senior Day win against the Lincoln Blue Tigers.
The Greyhounds came out the gates ready to strike as they found the first shot and goal of the game in the 8th minute on a quick cross and finish by a pair of Greyhound underclassmen.
Maggie Mentzer was the Hound to open up scoring with her first career goal that was set up by an Ellie Higbie cross.
The two teams then settled into the game with UIndy continuing to dominate possession before they found their second goal thanks to another big play by Higbie. The second goal came in the 31st minute thanks to a picture-perfect counter attack by UIndy that was jumpstarted by a perfectly placed through ball from Keerith Shergill that put Higbie as she raced towards the goal where she found her first goal of her sophomore campaign.
After the goal, the Greyhounds continued to press the Lincoln backline and find a couple more shots before they entered halftime with a 2-0 lead.
The second half saw the UIndy defense get tested more often and leaning more on Samarah Arendsen who found five saves in the contest.
As the half progressed so did the physicality with a number of whistles throughout the final 45 minutes, despite the physicality UIndy persevered as they continued to pick up shots on target.
The final shot came in the final minute of the game when the Greyhounds knocked through their third goal of the contest after their high press created another opportunity for the offense that Ryleigh Scheumann converted off of a Kate O'Neill pass. The goal was Scheumann's first of her career and O'Neill's first career assist.
The Greyhounds celebrated Samarah Arendsen, Karoline Bachelder, Emily DeWitt, Caressa Addison, Morgan Peters, Jaci Merchant and Shelby Rugg on Senior Day, with each player finding in-game action.
The 3-0 win was the largest win by the Greyhounds since their 5-0 win over Lincoln exactly two years prior. The win also marked the first multi-goal game of the Nick Smith era.
The Greyhounds return to action Saturday, October 17th at 1 p.m. when they return to the road to take on Upper Iowa.
