Offense Overwhelms Peacocks in Dominant Win

INDIANAPOLIS - The UIndy men's soccer team shined in a 3-0 road win over the Upper Iowa Peacocks.

The Greyhound offense came to play, finding a corner kick in the sixth minute before Shayne Abrams found another goal on his season.

The junior forward slotted in the first goal of the game in the 33rd minute thanks to Alejandro Zuniga's team-leading fifth assist of the season.

In the final 12 minutes of the first half UIndy sent in four more shots and found another corner before entering half with their 1-0 lead.

The first half was controlled by the Greyhound offense and the second half was defined by their goal scoring.

After a quiet first 15 minutes the Greyhound offense showed up once again with the Zuniga to Abrams connection for the second Abrams goal and Zuniga assist of the game.

The goal came in the 63rd minute and was soon followed by another UIndy opportunity set up by Zuniga. Zuniga sent a lofted pass through the Peacock backline to Sam Siegel who raced forward for another shot on goal which was saved, but cleaned up by Joey Longo to secure the third Greyhound goal.

The unrelenting UIndy offense continued to push the ball downfield for an array of shots before the final whistle came with the score remaining at 3-0.

The Greyhounds picked up 14 shots, seven shots on goal and six corners in the win, extending their streak of consecutive games with 10 or more shots to four - the second longest streak of the season.

Siegel led the team in shots on goal with three and tied for the team-lead for shots in the matchup with three, equaling Abrams and Longo who each had three. Zuniga's two assists lifted him to the top of the conference in assists on the season as the only player with six this season.

The win pushed the Greyhounds to fourth in the GLVC standings with two games left in the regular season. The Hounds will return home for their next matchup Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m. against the Lewis Flyers.
