FROM THE WGCA
Brent Nicoson has established himself as one of the most accomplished coaches in women's collegiate golf, building a championship legacy defined by sustained success, exceptional player development, and leadership within the sport. During his tenure at the University of Indianapolis, Nicoson guided the Greyhounds to three NCAA Division II National Championships (2015, 2018, and 2024), with the 2015 title marking the first time a program outside the state of Florida captured the Division II women's golf national championship.
Under his leadership, Indianapolis became one of the nation's premier women's golf programs, capturing 10 Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships in 11 seasons and maintaining a national top-10 ranking for 10 consecutive years. His teams have amassed 95 tournament victories, while Nicoson has earned numerous coaching honors, including the 2018 Division II Golf Pride WGCA National Coach of the Year award, nine GLVC Coach of the Year awards, and eight NCAA East Region Coach of the Year honors.
Nicoson's impact on student-athlete development is equally impressive. Throughout his coaching career, he has mentored 22 different WGCA All-Americans, 54 WGCA All-American Scholars, five NCAA Elite 90 Award recipients, 63 All-Conference selections, and eight conference Freshmen of the ear. His players have also captured five NCAA Individual Regional Championships, eight individual conference titles, and 77 individual tournament victories from 22 different players. Among his standout student-athletes is 2019 PING WGCA National Player of the Year, 2020 PING WGCA National Co-Player of the Year, and fellow 2026 WGCA Hall of Fame inductee, Pilar Echeverria. Another impressive player was Katharina Keilich, who captured the 2018 NCAA Division II Individual National Championship.
Beyond his success on the course, Nicoson has demonstrated a strong commitment to advancing collegiate golf through his service on the NCAA Division II Regional Advisory Committee and three years as chair of the NCAA Division II National Committee. Now at Grand Canyon University, he continues to make an impact, already coaching student-athletes to two school records and a Mountain West Freshman of the Year honor
