INDIANAPOLIS — UIndy had a successful weekend, defeating Maryville 3-1 on Friday for the program's annual Dig Pink match, before sweeping Missouri S&T on Saturday. The Hounds held both squads below a .200 hitting percentage while managing a .400 clip in Saturday's match against the Miners.
UIndy 3, Maryville 1
After trailing 2-1 to open set one, UIndy rallied to win five of the next six rallies, highlighted by
Macy Bruton serving four straight points, which included a block by
Allison Jansen and
Maddie Lynch, kills from Jansen and Lynch, and a Bruton ace. The Greyhounds built on this momentum, with Lynch, Jansen, and
Maddie Berger contributing kills to maintain a lead and ultimately taking the set 25-17.
After dropping set two, Indianapolis jumped ahead 10-5, powered by kills from
Grace Portwood,
Amaree Haralson, Berger, and Lynch to open the third set. After a tight exchange, the Greyhounds pulled away again with kills from Lynch and Jansen, winning the set 25-21.
In the fourth set, UIndy took a commanding lead, turning a 6-3 advantage into an 18-3 margin with a remarkable 12-0 run, fueled by Pflederer's five kills. The Greyhounds closed out the match convincingly, sealing the set at 25-11.
UIndy 3, Missouri S&T 0
In their match against Missouri S&T, UIndy hit an impressive .402, recording 50 kills and 11 total blocks, while Missouri S&T managed a mere .071 attack percentage. The first set remained close until UIndy surged ahead 12-8, thanks to kills from Portwood, Pflederer, and Lynch. A six-point run, initiated by Jansen's kill, widened the gap, and the Greyhounds took the first set 25-14.
The second set saw UIndy explode with an 8-0 run, featuring a mix of kills and blocks, as Portwood served seven straight points. Despite a brief response from Missouri S&T, the Greyhounds maintained control and finished the set decisively at 25-13 with Jansen's kill.
UIndy continued their momentum in set three, taking an early lead and extending it to 19-10 after contributions from Blomberg and Lynch. The set concluded 25-16 after McKenney's block, securing the match victory.
INSIDE THE BOX
-The Greyhounds 8-0 record in Ruth Lilly is the program's best start at home since the 2012 season, when the Hounds won their first nine matches at home.
