BOLIVAR, MO. – After dropping both games of Friday's doubleheader against Southwest Baptist, the Greyhounds rebounded with two wins of their own on Saturday against the Bearcats. Â
The Hounds took game one in a thrilling 19-16 extra inning battle, while cruising in game two to a 14-4 win.
GAME 1 | UIndy 19, Southwest Baptist 16 (9 inn.)
The Greyhounds have been no stranger to extra inning affairs this season, with today's game one being its sixth of the season. Today's game was one of scoring runs in bunches for the Hounds, scoring at least three runs in three innings, including two six run innings in the third and sixth.Â
Trailing 4-1 heading into the third, UIndy was in need of some offense and found just that. Austin Bode, Carter Thomas, Gavin Duran, and Joey Humphrey all recorded RBIs to retake a 7-5 lead after three. Bode connected on his team leading eighth home run of the season in the fifth to extend the Hounds' lead to 9-5.
After the Bearcats squared the game at nine, the Hounds once again went on a scoring run, grabbing six more runs in the sixth. Bret Perry, Chase Mason and Garrett Rusch all got in on the scoring action for UIndy, while Bode grabbed two more RBIs to give him his fourth and fifth RBIs of the day.
Once again the Bearcats were able to tie the game with five runs in the sixth and seventh frames to send it to extras. Both teams traded a pair of runs in the eighth, but the Greyhounds would find a way to push the lead out back to three in the ninth. Two errors and an RBI single from Mason gave the Hounds a 19-16 lead after the top of the ninth. Ryan O'Born finished the game in relief for UIndy, securing the three run win, and giving O'Born his first win of the season.
GAME 2 | UIndy 14, Southwest Baptist 4
Home runs were the name of the game for the Hounds in its second game on Saturday. For just the second time all season UIndy recorded seven home runs in a game, with the other coming against Davenport.
Along with five home runs, every batter for UIndy today recorded an RBI, including Jack Kerno who pinch hit for Brayton Bowen and had a home run in his lone at bat of the day.
Mason got the scoring started in the first on an RBI double to give UIndy a 1-0 lead, and similar to game one the Hounds reeled off a scoring run in the fourth, grabbing seven more runs. Bode, Bowen and Perry were responsible for six of the Hounds' runs on three home runs in the fourth and fifth innings to give UIndy a 9-0 lead.
Kerno, Rusch, and Thomas combined for four more home runs, all solo, in the sixth and seventh innings to push the Hounds' run total up to 14.
Along with the hot hitting, Kaleb Marrs pitched a complete game for the first time this season only allowing four runs on seven hits while punching out five. His complete game was good enough to keep the Bearcats' bats at bay, and capture the 10 run win, 14-4.Â
