INDIANAPOLIS— The UIndy baseball team moved to 6-3 in GLVC play with a 24-11 win over Rockhurst in the Hounds' home opener on Friday afternoon.Â
Gavin Duran and Joey Humphrey both gave the squad a grand slam each. The two four-run bombs are the most grand slams in a single game for the Hounds since they had two against Rockhurst on April 29, 2023, in Kansas City. And the home squad's 24 runs are the most scored in a game this season, and the highest since its Midwest Regional win over Davenport on May 16, 2025.
Aidan Pearson earned the win with 5.1 innings pitched and punching out two, and giving him a 4-1 record on the bump in his first season with the Greyhounds.Â
INS AND OUTSÂ
The Hounds scored five or more runs in three innings against the Hawks. UIndy jumped ahead with two outs in the bottom of the first after Solen Munson and Chase Mason both walked and were advanced by a Garrett Rusch single to left field, and was capped when Duran brought the three base runners in with a grand slam. A Bret Perry triple brought home Brayton Bowen, who reached the bases on a hit by pitch, before Perry touched home on a wild pitch, all to give UIndy a 6-1 lead after the first inning.
The Hounds stayed at six runs until the bottom of the fourth, where Rockhurst's pitching struggles allowed for six more UIndy runs, ending the fourth inning with a 12-2 lead.Â
Six UIndy batters were walked in the fifth frame, with three of those walks resulting in four more runs, and Carter Thomas and Austin Bode each recording an RBI off of singles late in the inning to push the lead out to 15.Â
Joey Humphrey found himself with bases loaded on his third trip to the plate, and extended the Hounds' lead 22-5 with a grand slam, cementing UIndy's 12th win of the season.
