Hounds Drop Series Opener Against Upper Iowa

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis (13-15, 7-6) fell to Upper Iowa (12-14, 5-4) in a 4-0 shutout on Friday at Bill Bright Field. The Greyhounds managed five hits but could not convert any into runs, leaving nine runners on base. Upper Iowa broke the deadlock with two runs in the fifth inning and added two more insurance runs in the ninth. The game featured six strikeouts by Greyhounds' pitchers over nine innings.

Aidan Pearson delivered a strong performance for the Greyhounds, pitching 6 1/3 innings and allowing only one earned run on four hits while striking out nine batters. Despite issuing three walks, Pearson maintained control throughout his outing, achieving a WHIP of 1.15. Griffin Hallahan came in as relief, pitching 2 2/3 innings, surrendering two earned runs on five hits, including two doubles, while striking out one and walking one. Overall, Greyhounds' pitchers combined for a total of 10 strikeouts in the game.

Bret Perry reached base three times with a hit and two walks, adding two assists in the field. Gavin Duran recorded a hit and a stolen base, contributing one assist defensively. Chase Mason collected one hit and handled 10 putouts as the team's catcher.

Upper Iowa secured a 4-0 victory over the Greyhounds, leveraging key moments in the fifth and ninth innings. 

In the fifth inning, Upper Iowa broke the scoreless tie. Kyle Hrncir scored after reaching third on an error, with Jayce Klug advancing him on a fielder's choice. Thane Meiners' bunt single drove in another run, giving Upper Iowa a 2-0 lead through five innings.

Upper Iowa added two more runs in the ninth inning. Hrncir doubled to right center and scored on Klug's single. A sacrifice fly by Brock Zimmer allowed Klug to score, extending Upper Iowa's lead to 4-0 by the end of the ninth inning.

The Greyhounds were unable to capitalize on their opportunities, leaving runners on base in multiple innings. The final score was Upper Iowa 4, Greyhounds 0.

The two squads return to Greyhound Park on Saturday, March 28, for a doubleheader, with the first game starting at noon.
