INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis secured a 6-2 victory over Upper Iowa on Sunday afternoon. A pivotal third inning saw Indianapolis score five runs, propelling it to the win and securing the series 3-1 against the Peacocks.
Ryan O'Born started for Indianapolis, pitching 5 innings with 6 hits and 2 earned runs, while striking out 4 and walking 3.
Griffin Hallahan relieved with a strong performance, pitching 3 innings, allowing just 1 hit and no runs, while striking out 2 with a 0.67 WHIP.
Drake Downing closed the game, pitching 1 inning, allowing 1 hit, and one strikeout, without allowing a run. Collectively, the Greyhounds pitchers combined for 8 strikeouts and maintained control by allowing only 1 walk over the last 4 innings.
Gavin Duran led the team with a triple and a double, driving in two runs and scoring once.
Bret Perry contributed with two hits, including a double, and added an RBI.
Brayton Bowen reached base three times, hitting a triple and drawing two walks.
INS & OUTS
Upper Iowa took an early lead in the first inning when Gabe Bombardier doubled down the left-field line, driving in Cael Luzum. Upper Iowa led 1-0 after the first inning.
Indianapolis broke through in the third inning with a five-run surge.
Bret Perry singled to center field and
Austin Bode followed with a single to right.
Gavin Duran then tripled to right center, bringing home Perry and Bode.
Chase Mason's infield single allowed Duran to score, and after a wild pitch advanced Mason,
Garrett Rusch tripled to center, scoring Mason.
Carter Thomas capped the inning with a sacrifice fly to bring home Rusch. The Greyhounds led 5-1 after the third inning.
Upper Iowa added a run in the fifth inning on a fielder's choice by JJ Vargas, closing the gap slightly. The Greyhounds maintained a 5-2 lead after the fifth inning.
In the sixth inning, Indianapolis extended its lead when
Brayton Bowen walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Perry doubled to center field, allowing Bowen to score. The Greyhounds' 6-2 lead would last them through the end of the game.
