CARY, N.C. – The No. 7 seeded UIndy baseball team fell on Friday night in the first game of the NCAA DII College World Series to the No. 1 seed West Chester, 12-3.
UIndy is making its third College World Series appearance in four seasons today, while the Golden Rams seem to be a mainstay in the big dance every year, making a trip to Cary in nine of the last 10 seasons.
The Greyhounds had a pair of multi-hit guys today, with Bret Perry stacking up three hits and Joey Humphrey with two, while Brayton Bowen hit a home run in his first College World Series appearance in his four years with the squad. Bowen brought his season total home runs to 13, which is the most in a season by a Greyhound primary first baseman in program history.
INS & OUTS
The Greyhounds found a lot of success getting on base today, racking up 11 hits, its third most in a loss this season. Four of the first five batters in the hitting order all recorded at least a hit, with the two hole, Perry, notching his fifth career three-hit game.Â
On the other side of the diamond, the Golden Rams got after Aidan Pearson early with five first inning runs on six hits.Â
The two key moments came in the second and the fourth for the Greyhounds, as in both innings they found a run, but left a total of six runners on base. The Golden Rams took advantage of those one base miscues and added seven runs over the final five innings of action, including five in the seventh and eighth innings.
Perry's double in the ninth added a third run to the UIndy total, but proved to not be enough as West Chester played their way into the next round of the championship bracket with a 12-3 win over UIndy.
