INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 9 UIndy football team kicked off its 2026 season with an emphatic win in front of a raucous home crowd, stifling the crosstown Knights of Marian, 39-7, in its second straight win in the "Monumental Matchup." The Greyhounds amassed nearly 500 yards of total offense while holding their guests scoreless for the final 54-plus minutes of play.

UIndy remains home to host the Oilers of the University of Findlay on Saturday, Sep. 5. Kickoff from Key Stadium is set for 2 p.m.
 
INS & OUTS
In a clash of the city's only scholarship college football teams, UIndy used a big second quarter to springboard in front. Three different Hounds found to end zone in the quarter, including Garrett Sherrill, who finished the half with more than 100 yards rushing.
 
Trailing 26-7 at the halfway point, the intermission did little to reinvigorate the visiting Knights. The Greyhound defense continued to clamp down, holding them scoreless for the remainder night.
 
Running out a starting quarterback not named Sukup for the first time since 2022, UIndy got quality play from its new signal caller, Nick Patterson. A transfer from in-region Saginaw Valley and a Mooresville, Ind., native, Patterson finished an efficient 15-for-22 passing for 212 yards and a touchdown.
 
The big-bodied QB also helped fuel a punishing UIndy ground game. He was one of three Hounds to surpass 50 yards rushing, led by Sherrell (106 yards) and Juseters Fataki (83).
 
INSIDE THE BOX
- Jerrell Franklin Jr., Eli Liapis and Alvin Contreras each finished with a team-high seven tackles.
- An All-American d-lineman at College of Dupage, transfer Dontay Fort amassed a pair of sacks in his UIndy debut.
- The Greyhounds finished with 262 rushing yards on 39 attempts, good for an average of 6.7 yards per carry.
- Senior wideout and return man Anthony Crowell compiled 87 all-purpose yards, highlights by a 31-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter.
 
MORE NOTES
The contest marked just the fourth-ever meeting between UIndy and Marian, with the series now even 2-2. It was also Marian's first time visiting Key Stadium since September of 2016 … With the official attendance at 5,274, the matchup netted UIndy's highest-attended home opener since 2019.
