INDIANAPOLIS - The UIndy women's soccer team secured their first win of the Nick Smith era with their 1-0 win over William Jewell at home.
The Greyhounds started the game with immediate pressure on the William Jewell backline, charging down the field and finding a shot on goal from Emma Simpson in the 2nd minute off of a corner.
After the stopped shot the Greyhounds continued to dominate possession finding multiple corners over the next five minutes. With the corner kicks shots followed with a couple coming from graduate student Jaci Merchant.
The UIndy offense was fueled by the dominance of the Greyhound defense that allowed zero shots and corners in the first half to the visitors. The first half for the Hounds was one of the best of the season with the hosts finding six shots, two being on target, and four corners.
The second half saw even more success from the Greyhounds as they ramped up their runs and their offensive production.
It took longer to find a shot than to start the first half, but once the Hounds found one they came in bunches. Nine shots rang in from UIndy in the second half including the most consequential of the season, thus far, off the foot of Emily Dewitt.
Dewitt found her first career goal thanks to a great sequence in open play set up from the wing with Hannah Magruder and Frances Poulos both picking up an assist.
As the game entered the final minutes the offense continued for UIndy with Ella Higbie finding the last shot of the game in a dominant showing from the Greyhounds.
Overall, UIndy accumulated 15 shots, five shots on goal and seven corners while holding the Cardinals to zero shots in the whole game. The zero shots by an opponent is the fewest allowed in a single game in program history; single game data dates back to the 2012 season.
The Hounds will stay at home for their next match as they take on the University of Missouri-St. Louis Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 2:30 p.m. in Key Stadium.
