INDIANAPOLIS - The UIndy men's soccer team secured their first road win of the season in a dominant 2-0 victory over the McKendree Bearcats.
The Greyhounds found another quick start, picking up their first shot on goal and goal of the game in the 11th minute courtesy of Sam Siegel. Siegel's strike was his first goal of the season and was set up by a Tobias Herrera V assist.
UIndy kept their foot on the gas with shots from Joey Longo and Alejandro Zuniga in the next two minutes which eventually led to a beautiful finish from Alessandrio Della Vecchia. With the goal, Della Vecchia became the seventh individual goal scorer on the UIndy roster this season.
McKendree looked to fight back, advancing up the field over the following 15 minutes, but both the backline and Rick Lammerts got in the way of McKendree attempts to maintain the lead.
When the 30th minute hit UIndy looked for another goal with a shot on target from Longo which was saved before both teams looked to readjust their on-field lineups.Â
Both teams traded possession without another challenge on goal in the first half following Lammerts' save in the 38th minute, giving UIndy a 2-0 lead entering half.
Physicality defined the second half with a number of fouls being committed by each side and the trend of the end of the first half also continued with both teams battling into each other's half, but not finding many shot attempts.
McKendree looked to ramp up pressure with 20 minutes to go, finding a number of shots to pair with a steady build up field, but the UIndy defense stepped up again.
The Greyhounds responded with some more pressure of their own before the final whistle was blown.
In the second shutout of conference play Lammerts picked up four saves with his offense taking care of business and firing off 11 shots, five from Zuniga, and five shots on goal.
The Hounds will return home at 12 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27 at Key Stadium against Southwest Baptist in a battle of two four-win teams.
