LOUISVILLE, Ky.- After having its five-game winning streak snapped in a 9-1 loss in the opener, the University of Indianapolis baseball team  salvaged a split in Friday's doubleheader at Bellarmine with a 9-4 victory in game two.  Nine different Greyhounds scored at least one run on the day, but senior Justin Russell was the only one to score two.

GAME 1
GLVC Pitcher of the Year candidate Cory White garnered his first loss of the year in the opening.  White lasted just two innings as the Knights quickly chased him with eight hits and seven runs, the majority of which came in the second.

Conversely, Bellarmine ace Michael Thompson had little trouble with the Hounds, as the senior hurler registered a complete-game two hitter and allowed just a single unearned run.  He also recorded 10 strikeouts on the day, helping him break his own program record for most strikeouts in a season.

UIndy's lone run came in the first inning.  Justin Russell earned a leadoff single and was bunted to second.  Russell advance the final two bases on Knight miscues as a muffed pick-off attempt got him to third and a throwing error after a ground ball allowed him to score.

GAME 2
The potent UIndy offense took not be stifled for long, as the Greyhounds complied nine runs and 12 hits in the second game.

After two scoreless frames from both teams, Indianapolis jumped on the Knights for four runs in the third and five in the fifth.

UIndy's third-inning rally featured four singles, including a two-run base knock from Chase Kittinger, while the fifth was highlighted by an RBI double by Ben Sondgeroth.

UIndy starter Cory Rupert upped his record to 8-1 on the season by allowing three earned runs and striking out seven in five innings, but after BU scored two runs in both the fourth and fifth, Andrew Werner relieved Rupert to start the sixth.

Werner faced just three hitters and would not get an out, however, by allowing two singles and a hit batsman.  Head Coach Gary Vaught opted to go to Jordan Tiegs, and with no one out, Tiegs delivered by getting a shallow fly ball and a double-play grounder to keep the Knights off the board in the sixth.

With both teams having locked up a conference tournament spot, the opponents wrap up the regular season with another twin bill Sunday starting at 12 p.m. Eastern.
