Kerrigan stars in volleyball loss

Box score

LOUISVILLE, Ky.-  In nearly a mirror image of last night's five-set win, the No. 19 UIndy volleyball team (18-7, 7-3 GLVC) fell at Bellarmine Saturday in the maximum five sets.  The loss snapped the Greyhounds' nine-match win streak, as sophomore Kristina Kerrigan (pictured) set a career high with 28 kills.

Last night, the Hounds dropped the opening set, went up two sets to one, and won it in the fifth at Northern Kentucky.  Bellarmine (14-8, 6-4) turned the tables, doing exactly same thing to Indianapolis this afternoon.

The home Knights had nine more service errors but were able to stifle the Hounds' comeback attempt with a 15-11 win in the fifth set.

Kerrigan's kill total is the highest in the GLVC this season and the most by a Greyhound since Shaun McAllister killed 31 balls in 2004.  Kerrigan was also efficient in her efforts, compiling a .412 hitting percentage thanks to just six attack errors among her 51 swings.

After five straight matches away from the Ruth Lilly Center, UIndy returns to the Circle City for a four-match home stand, starting with a non-conference tilt versus in-region Urbana Tuesday, Oct. 26.  The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.  Live video will be available via UIndy UView.
