On tap:
After evening its record with a road win at Northern Michigan last week, the UIndy football looks to keep it rolling versus a skillful Ferris State squad Saturday.  The Bulldogs are 5-2 in league play and are tied for second in the GLIAC standings.

About Ferris State:
After winning five of its first six games this season, Ferris State comes into Saturday's match-up having lost two in a row, including a 41-0 beating from top-ranked Grand Valley State last Saturday.  The Bulldogs had a five-game win streak snapped in a tough 22-20 loss at Northern Michigan Oct. 16, before being shut out by the Lakers in the “Anchor-Bone Classic” last week.

Even after allowing more than 500 yards to Grand Valley last week, FSU ranks second in the GLIAC in rushing defense (130.0 ypg)  and sixth in total defense (327.5 ypg).  Senior linebacker Matt Ryan averages 10.6 tackles per game, good for second on the conference, while fellow-LB Tayo Moss ranks fifth (9.2 tackles per).

Ferris State features a formidable pass rush, as the team is tied for the league lead with 21 sacks on the season.  Defensive end Jordan Moss paces to the GLIAC with 11, three more than teammate Jacob Moreno.

Series history:
In one of UIndy's longest active rivalries, Ferris State holds a 16-12-1 edge in the all-time series.  The teams  first hooked up back in 1953, with the Greyhounds winning 19-7 at FSU.  UIndy has won four of the last six meetings, with the home team losing each of the previous four.

Last season, Indianapolis earned a convincing 34-7 road win.  Paul Corsaro recorded the game's first score with a four-yard TD run in the first quarter, while Mar'Quone Edwards bookended intermission with a pair of touchdown receptions from Rob Doyle, both from eight yards out.  UIndy out-gained the Bulldogs 220-31 on the ground, holding the ball from more than 37 minutes.

About FSU Head Coach Jeff Pierce:
Jeff Pierce enters the week with a 96-77 (.555) record in his 16 years at Ferris State.  Approaching his 100th win at his alma mater, Pierce is the program's all-time leader in victories.  He led the Bulldogs to back-to-back NCAA berths in his first two seasons at FSU (1995 & '96), including an appearance in the NCAA D-II national semifinals his rookie campaign.

About UIndy Head Coach Bob Bartolomeo:
Bob Bartolomeo (18-11-1 overall, 4-4 at UIndy) took over the reins of the UIndy football program this year after six seasons as the Greyhound defensive coordinator.  Coach “Bart”  has over three-and-a-half decades of coaching experience at NCAA Division I-A, I-AA and II, but will be in his third season as a head man.  He led the Butler Bulldogs to the NCAA Division II playoffs and a Midwest Intercollegiate Football Conference (MIFC-- now the GLIAC) championship in 1991, while posting a 14-7-1 record over two seasons.  He then logged 11 seasons at Ball State and a brief stop at Central Michigan in 2003 before taking over the Greyhound defense in 2004.

Superior Win:
UIndy's 6-5 victory against the Wildcats last week marked its first-ever win at Northern Michigan in 10 tries at the Superior Dome.  The one-point final also marked the first home loss for NMU in 2010.

Aerial Defense:
The UIndy defense has surrendered under 80 yards passing for four straight weeks.  The Hounds have allowed an average of 50 passing yards per game over that span, aided by five interceptions and seven sacks.  Overall, the Hounds' allowance of 141.4 passing yards per contest is good for sixth in the nation.

Intercept Course:
Senior Alex Byrnes notched his fourth interception of the season last Saturday, tying him for the GLIAC lead with four other players.  The Cardinal Ritter grad now has six career picks to his credit, including an interception return of 51 yards last season and 42-yard return this year.  As a team, UIndy ranks third in the GLIAC with 11 interceptions.

Road Warriors:  UIndy sports a 3-1 record away from Key Stadium, allowing 10 points or less in three of those five contests.

Tackling the Issues:  Saturday's game features four of the league's top five tacklers.  Greyhounds Max Davis (12.0 tackles/game) and Craig Ray (10.1) rank first and third, respectively, while Bulldogs Matt Ryan (10.6) and Tayo Moss (9.2) are second and fifth.    Davis' number is good for a share of eighth in D-II, while Ray's puts him14th.

The Glass is Half Full:
Last week's win marked the second time this season the Greyhounds were held scoreless in the first half, only the come back on win the game.  The Hounds trailed Ashland 3-0 at intermission back in week two before pulling out the 17-12 win.

Top-10 Shake-Up:
Three of the nation's top-10 teams lost last week, including then-sixth-ranked and GLIAC-power Hillsdale.  The Chargers fell 14-9 at Wayne State Saturday in a GLIAC South Division showdown.  Both teams are now tied for second in the league standings with matching 5-2 records.  Other top-10 losers included No. 3 California (Pa.) and 10th-ranked North Alabama.

New League Announced for 2012:
The University of Indianapolis football team will be one of the charter members of the newly-formed Great Lakes Valley Conference, announced in January by league and school officials.  The addition of football to the league's sponsored sports beginning in 2012 will allow UIndy to compete as a full member, joining 17 other Greyhound varsity teams that battle for GLVC championships.  UIndy football, which currently competes in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) as an associate member, will play its 2010 and 2011 schedules in that league. Indianapolis has been a member of the GLIAC since it merged with the Midwest Intercollegiate Football Conference back in 1999.
