ROMEOVILLE, Ill.- Junior
Kristina Hefferan delivered a team-high 14 kills to lead the 19th-ranked UIndy volleyball team (24-7) to a first-round victory over Bellarmine in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament, hosted by Lewis University this weekend.
As the tourney's No. 2 seed, UIndy dispatched of the seventh-seeded Knights (18-10) in just under 90 minutes, avenging a five-set loss at BU earlier this season. Two of the sets required extra points to decided, as the Greyhounds won 28-26, 25-18, and 26-24.
Hefferan did her damage on 31 swings while compiling a .290 hitting percentage. Sophomore
Kourtney Crawford hit .381 with 10 kills, senior
Cheneta Morrison amassed 35 kills and 13 digs, and senior
Lyndsay Callahan added 11 digs.
UIndy advances to the GLVC semifinals for the ninth consecutive season. The defending conference champs face Southern Indiana Saturday at 6 p.m. Eastern. The Greyhounds swept USI at the Ruth Lilly Center back on
Oct. 9.
