Greyhounds earn third straight NCAA berth

INDIANAPOLIS- For the third consecutive year and sixth time in the last eight seasons, the University of Indianapolis women's basketball team received an invitation to the NCAA Division II Championships Sunday.  The Greyhounds, ranked third in the latest D-II coaches' poll, enter national-tournament play with a stellar 26-3 record as the No. 2 seed in the eight-team Midwest Regional being held at Michigan Tech University Mar. 12-15.

Coming off a "Sweet 16" appearance in last season's tourney, the Greyhounds will face the No. 7 seed in Northern Michigan (21-9).  The Wildcats advanced to the final game of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament before falling 73-69 to Michigan Tech.  The Hounds and Wildcats have faced each other just one previous time, with NMU winning a 91-71 decision in the first round of the 1995 NCAA Tournament.

Fresh off winning the 2010 GLIAC title, top-seeded Michigan Tech (28-2) will serve as the host of the region's top eight squads.  The regional field is rounded out by third-seeded Drury, fourth-seeded Wisconsin-Parkside, No. 5 seed Findlay, sixth-seeded Southern Indiana and No. 8 seed Northern Kentucky.

First round action starts Friday, March 12, with tip-off for UIndy coming at 2:30 p.m.  The winner of the Midwest Region bracket will join seven other regional champions in St. Joseph, Mo. for the Elite Eight Mar. 23-26.  Click here to view the D-II selection show and here for the complete bracket.
