Partial box score
INDIANAPOLIS- With the score tied and just a half inning left to play, heavy rains paired with lightning to suspend the UIndy/Anderson baseball at Victory Field Wednesday night. The teams finished eight and a half innings with the score knotted at nine apiece, but the final three outs will have to wait as the two will now settle up at a later date.
UIndy trailed for three of the final four frames, including during a rain delay in the bottom of the seventh. After the stoppage, the Ravens tacked on three more in the eighth to up their lead to 9-5.
As the visiting team on the scoreboard, the Hounds managed a rally in the top of the ninth to tie it at nine. Pain and patience fueled the surge, as UIndy parlayed three walks and two hit batsmen into four runs.
Adam Rusche earned the frame's only hit with a two-run single through the left side.
With Coach
Gary Vaught knocking on the door of career win No. 700, more lightning came in the middle of the ninth to force the suspension before the Ravens began their ninth turn at the plate.
A total of 13 pitchers were used during the non-conference affair, as both teams tried to limit the innings of their top arms. Of the eight pitchers the Greyhounds threw, only starter
Donovan Drake and
Danny Collier pitched at least one inning of scoreless ball.
Catcher
Chase Kittinger had the Hounds' only extra-base hit when he sent a line drive over the leftfield wall for a two-run homer in the fifth.
Check back at athletics.uindy.edu for an announcement regarding the completion of the game.
