INDIANAPOLIS --
Kristina Hefferan and Kristina Kerrigan each had nine kills to lead No. 23 University of Indianapolis volleyball past Missouri-St. Louis, 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-12), on Sunday afternoon at Ruth Lilly Center.

The Greyhounds (12-4, 10-1 GLVC) solidified their hold on first place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference with their 10th win in a row. Kerrigan hit .368 with two blocks and an ace, while Hefferan hit .348 with nine digs. Meghan Binkerd added 33 assists, eight digs, two blocks and two kills as the Greyhounds hit .340 with 42 kills, while holding the Tritons (12-6, 7-4 GLVC) to .088 attacking and 31 kills.

Amy Oldenburg led all players with 12 digs and middle blockers Courtney Anglemyer and Julia Watkins each had three blocks. Anglemyer added eight kills hitting .429 and Watkins contributed four kills, two assists and two digs.

The Tritons, which were preseason favorites in the GLVC West and were receiving votes in the national poll to start the season, were led by Erin Higgins with 10 kills, Katie Haseltine with nine digs and Anna McNulty with 28 assists.

A kill by Kourtney Crawford and ace by Binkerd started the match for UIndy as it built a 9-2 lead in the opening set. The Tritons fought back to close within three, 19-16, but back-to-back blocks by Anglemyer/Kerrigan and Binkerd/Watkins started a 6-0 run to close the set by the Greyhounds. Binkerd put away a kill after a dig by Watkins to end the set, 25-16.

UIndy held UMSL to -.053 attacking with eight kills and 10 errors to start the match, while UIndy had 12 kills, but hit just .167.

UMSL hung close to start the second set, but a 9-4 run gave UIndy a six-point cushion, 13-7, after a kill by Hefferan. The Tritons called timeout and scored the next point, but that wouldn't slow down the Hounds. UMSL never scored back-to-back points in the set because UIndy was a perfect 16-of-16 on sideout opportunities. The Hounds closed the set with a trio of kills in just three swings by Kenzie Bruggeman, 25-15.

UIndy hit .419 with 13 kills and no errors, while the Tritons hit .209 with 15 kills. UIndy also had two aces and no errors, while UMSL had no aces and four errors.

UMSL scored the first point of the third set for their only lead of the match, but UIndy came back with two in a row to take the lead for good. The Hounds were 11-of-12 on sideouts in the third set to not allow the Tritons any hope of a comeback. Freshman Kimberly Trojan hammered home a kill from the left side on match point, 25-12, to finish off UMSL.

UIndy hit .417 with 17 kills in the last set, while UMSL had only eight kills and hit .094.

The Greyhounds will travel to the Great Lakes Center in Aurora, Ill., next weekend to face a trio of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents in the fourth Mizuno GLIAC/GLVC Crossover on Friday and Saturday. The match-ups are anticipated to be announced sometime Sunday evening.
