INDIANAPOLIS – Multiple players stepped up to lead No. 10 UIndy volleyball to a sweep of Drury, 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 28-26), on Saturday afternoon at the Ruth Lilly Center in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match.
Brittany Anglemyer led the Greyhounds (21-3, 10-0 GLVC) with 10 kills hitting .600 and three blocks, while
Arielle Knafel added nine kills, seven digs and two blocks against the Panthers (11-13, 3-7 GLVC).
Hailey Brown came off the bench to compile seven kills, while
Hannah Bauer hit .364 with four kills and two blocks, including assisting on the match winner, playing in just the final set.
Meghan Binkerd helped seven hitters compile three or more kills with 37 assists and was instrumental in keeping Drury off balance with a career-high six aces.
Amy Oldenburg led the defense with a match-high 12 digs as the Panthers were limited to a .176 attack percentage.
The Greyhounds opened the first set on a 7-1 run and didn't look back. Binkerd started the match with back-to-back aces and added another one three points later as UIndy scored the first five points in that run. Drury never got on track as an Anglemyer kill, Kim Trojan ace and Binkerd kill ended the set, 25-13. UIndy hit .345 with 13 kills and held Drury to seven kills.
The teams split the first eight points, but then UIndy used a 6-0 run to take control, 10-4, capped by back-to-back kills and a block from Anglemyer. Just like the first set, Drury never challenged UIndy as the home team pulled away to win, 25-14, when
Payton Schultz' attempt to send the ball back to Drury clipped the net and fell to floor. UIndy hit .625 with 16 kills and one error in just 24 attempts in the set.
The final set had nine ties and four lead changes as Drury tried to extend the match and UIndy used a variety of line-ups to get different players more experience. A block by Katie Box and Kylee Inman gave the Panthers their first four-point lead, 14-10, and they maintained that advantage, 19-15, with another block before UIndy rallied.
A kill and ace by Binkerd, followed by a block from
Julia Watkins and Bauer pulled UIndy within one as part of a 5-1 run to even the set at 20. Brown then missed a serve to keep Drury in front and the team's traded points with Drury eventually earning set point, 24-23, after Knafel missed a serve wide. Anglemyer answered with a kill and then Alexis Dutt was called for double contact on a set to give UIndy set point, 25-24.
The Panthers saved and earned another of their own, 26-25, but Brown came back with a kill. Alex Smith missed an attack long for another UIndy match point and was then blocked by Watkins and Bauer on the next point to end the match, 28-26. UIndy hit .087 with 14 kills and 10 errors, while the Panthers had 13 kills and hit .143.
Smith led all players with 17 kills to lead Drury, while Dutt had 25 assists and Brooke Foster tallied 12 digs.
UIndy is back at Ruth Lilly Center tomorrow at 3 p.m. to host Missouri S&T for the Pink Match. Sunday's matinee is also a meeting of the two GLVC division leaders.
