Women's tennis wins first dual match of the season

Maggie Ashby won at one doubles and two singles on Saturday.

The UIndy women's tennis team played its first dual match of the season on Saturday and came away with an 8-1 triumph over Georgetown (Ky.) at the UIndy Tennis Center.

The Greyhounds (1-0) started by winning all three doubles matches with Maggie Ashby and Alena Perez-Majul taking an 8-1 decision at No. 1, followed by Rachel Barger and Kasey Land at No. 3 with an 8-2 win. Brooke Boyts and Claire Liles trailed early, 4-1, at No. 2, but fought back to earn the 9-7 decision against the Tigers (1-3).

Singles saw UIndy win 5-of-6 matches, all in straight sets, led by Taylor Eckert with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 6 and Meghan Teunis won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4.

UIndy returns to the Tennis Center on Feb. 11 to host crosstown rival Butler at 5 p.m.
