KISSIMMEE, Fla. --
The University of Indianapolis women's tennis team broke through for the first time this season against a nationally-ranked team with a 6-3 win over No. 31 Augustana (S.D.) to conclude its Spring Break trip at Star Island Resort on Sunday morning.

The Greyhounds (7-5) had come close with losses to No. 25 Grand Valley State (5-4) and No. 30 Wayne State (6-3), which prepared them to take down the Vikings (12-2) and end their 10-match winning streak.

UIndy started by winning a pair of doubles matches with seniors Maggie Ashby and Alena Perez-Majul defeating the No. 3 team in the NCAA D-II Central Region, 8-3, at No. 1. Claire Liles and Kelsey Matthews took the other point with an 8-1 victory at No. 3.

The Greyhounds' depth proved crucial in singles as Augie won at No. 1 and No. 2 singles behind their regionally-ranked duo, but UIndy won the remaining four matches in straight sets.

Matthews took a 6-1, 6-3 decision at No. 3, while Kasey Land survived a tough first set on the way to a 7-6 (9), 6-0 win at No. 4. Meghan Teunis won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5 and Taylor Eckert took down Jessica Spalding 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6.

The Hounds return to the Hoosier State to begin Great Lakes Valley Conference play at St. Joseph's on March 24.
