Women's tennis wins at Indiana Wesleyan

The NCAA Division II No. 50 University of Indianapolis women's tennis team started its weekend road trip by taking down the 17th-ranked team in NAIA, Indiana Wesleyan, 7-2, at the Sutter Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Greyhounds (9-5) started by taking all three doubles matches from the Wildcats (16-2). Seniors Maggie Ashby and Alena Perez-Majul improved to 7-5 at No. 1 doubles with an 8-2 decision, while a new team of Kasey Land and Meghan Teunis won their debut, 8-6, at No. 2. The Greyhounds concluded the sweep with Claire Liles and Kelsey Matthews shutting out their opponents at No. 3, 8-0.

Matthews, Land and Teunis all added wins in singles at No. 3-5 with Matthews taking a 6-4, 6-1 win against Lauren Wilson to move to 7-2 at the third position. Land improved to 6-1 in dual matches with her 6-1, 6-2 win over Kristen Futrell, while Teunis defeated Kim Mella 6-3, 6-2.

Taylor Eckert rounded out the match by winning her team-high 10th dual singles match with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Sarah Richert at No. 6.

UIndy moves back into Great Lakes Valley Conference play at No. 47 Lewis (12-2, 1-0 GLVC) at 2 p.m. on Sunday. The Greyhounds are also 1-0 in conference matches after defeating St. Joseph's, 9-0, last weekend.
