ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The No. 47 Lewis women's tennis team was able to defend home court by defeating No. 50 UIndy, 6-3, on Sunday at the Jack Oremus Tennis Complex.
The Flyers (13-2, 2-0 GLVC) took the early lead by easily winning all three doubles matches from the Greyhounds (9-6, 1-1 GLVC) with 8-2 decisions at No. 1 and No. 3 and 8-1 at No. 2.
Freshman
Kelsey Matthews earned a quick victory over Bayley Brown 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 for the Greyhounds, but the Flyers' nationally-ranked No. 26 Zsofia Lanstiak and No. 31 Zsofia Kranczicki won 6-2, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-3 over
Alena Perez-Majul and
Maggie Ashby to clinch the victory.
UIndy added wins at No. 4 by
Kasey Land 1-6, 6-0, (10-6) over Katie Hargrove and
Taylor Eckert at No. 6 over Kendra Mills 6-2, 2-6, (10-5).
The Greyhounds return home for a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference matches at Center Grove High School on Friday and Saturday against Bellarmine and Northern Kentucky.
