Women's tennis earns road win at in-state rival

Maggie Ashby won at No. 1 doubles and No. 3 singles for UIndy against Southern Indiana.

The No. 50 University of Indianapolis women's tennis team completed their weekend road sweep by defeating in-state rival Southern Indiana, 7-2, at the USI Tennis Courts on Sunday.

The Greyhounds (12-7, 4-2 GLVC) clinched a tie for second in the Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division and based on tiebreakers will be the GLVC East third seed and play the GLVC West second-place team in next weekend's GLVC Tennis Championship in Springfield, Mo.

UIndy took a pair of doubles matches from the Screaming Eagles (8-9, 3-3 GLVC) to open the match with seniors Maggie Ashby and Alena Perez-Majul winning 8-6 at No. 1 and Brooke Boyts and Meghan Teunis earning an 8-4 decision at No. 3.

The Greyhounds took care of business by taking 5-of-6 singles bouts as the match continued. Freshman Kelsey Matthews won 6-0, 6-4 at No. 2, while Ashby took a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 3.

Teunis fought back from dropping the first set to defeat Logan Ackerman 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4 and Taylor Eckert won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5 for her 10th consecutive victory. Boyts remained undefeated in dual singles (5-0) by defeating Alyssa Hoover 6-0, 6-3 at No. 6 to complete the victory.
