Box Score

UPLAND, Ind. – Hours after winning the first AVCA National Player of the Week award in school history, senior outside hitter Kristina Kerrigan started her campaign to win it again in No. 9 UIndy volleyball's victory at NAIA No. 23 Taylor, 3-2 (25-14, 25-21, 24-26, 18-25, 17-15), on Tuesday night at Odle Arena.

Kerrigan finished with a career-high 33 kills and season-high 17 digs, while attacking at a .444 clip in the ninth win in a row for the Greyhounds (12-2). Junior Brittany Anglemyer added a career-high 13 kills with a .360 attack percentage and senior Kourtney Crawford had a season-high 11 kills hitting .333 against the Trojans (12-5).

Sophomore setter Meghan Binkerd had a career-high 68 assists, which are the most since All-American Beth Robbins had 69 in a match against Hillsdale in 2007. Kerrigan's 33 kills are the most since Whitney Boling had 33 against Northern Kentucky in 2003.

Binkerd also had 11 digs and six kills, while Amy Oldenburg tied Kerrigan with a team-high 17 digs.

The Greyhounds hit .315 as a team with 80 kills, while the Trojans hit .299 with 63 kills. The Trojans were able to accumulate 17 total blocks and took advantage of 12 missed serves by UIndy.

After comfortably winning the first two sets, UIndy couldn't close out Taylor in either of the next two to force a tense fifth set with 11 ties and three lead changes. UIndy was in control early with a 5-2 lead after a kill by Kerrigan and 7-4 after a Crawford kill. Taylor came back to score three in a row, but then missed a serve to keep UIndy up, 8-7, when teams switched sides.

The Trojans hung around to hold one-point leads of 10-9 and 11-10, but a Kerrigan kill and Taylor attack error put UIndy back in front, 12-11. The lead was never more than one as Taylor saved two match points. A kill by Arielle Knafel off the block gave UIndy a third, 16-15, and it took advantage in an unconventional save. Oldenburg made a diving dig of a Taylor attack, but the ball sailed over the net and appeared to be going wide. Instead of letting the ball drop, Montanna Ashline tried to attack, but mishit the ball to give UIndy the victory, 17-15. UIndy scored 13-of-17 points in the fifth on kills, with eight by Kerrigan and three from Crawford.

Taylor was led by Ashlyn DeHoogh and Elizabeth Luke with 20 kills each, while Ali Swart had 13 kills and seven blocks. Julia Willey paced the Trojans with 55 assists, while Courtney Herschberger led all players with 21 digs.

The Greyhounds return to Ruth Lilly Center for three matches this weekend with two on Friday against NCAA Division III Wittenberg at 3 p.m. and Kentucky Wesleyan at 7 p.m. The weekend concludes with in-state rival Southern Indiana at 3 p.m. Saturday.
