INDIANAPOLIS – Kourtney Crawford had a season-high 13 kills and hit .360 as NCAA Division II No. 9 UIndy volleyball defeated NCAA Division III No. 3 Wittenberg, 3-1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-13, 25-17), on Friday afternoon at the Ruth Lilly Center.
Kristina Kerrigan led all player with 17 kills and hit .342, in addition to nine digs, six blocks and two assists for the Greyhounds (13-2) in their 10th win in a row.
Brittany Anglemyer tallied a .471 attack percentage with 10 kills and three blocks against the Tigers (11-3).
Meghan Binkerd dished 46 assists, in addition to nine kills and four kills on .667 attacking, while
Amy Oldenburg led UIndy with 10 digs.
Julia Watkins led all players with seven blocks as the Greyhounds limited the Tigers to .153 attacking. The Greyhounds countered by converting at a .325 clip.
Back-to-back kills by
Arielle Knafel helped start a 5-0 run for the Greyhounds to take control in the opening set after dropping the first two points. UIndy continued to pull away and led by nine, 16-7, after a Kerrigan kill and Anglemyer ace. The Tigers weren't able to challenge UIndy as it converted on its second set point, 25-19, with a kill by
Kenzie Bruggeman. UIndy hit .481 in the set, while Wittenberg was at a .281 attacking clip.
The Greyhounds led, 7-5, in the second when the Tigers rattled off a 7-1 run to build a six-point lead, 14-8. After a couple of rotation errors by Wittenberg led to UIndy pulling within one, 17-16, the Tigers were able to go back up by three, 21-18. UIndy couldn't get closer than two points the rest of the way as Wittenberg evened the match, 25-22, by holding UIndy to .184 attacking in the set.
The Tigers were able to stay within two points until an 11-3 run by UIndy put them up by 10, 20-11, after back-to-back kills by Crawford. Kerrigan swooped in for a kill on the second set point, 25-13, for the win. UIndy's defense helped it win the third by holding Wittenberg to -.054 attacking to .393 for the Greyhounds.
There were six ties and three lead changes to start the fourth set until a kill by Binkerd started a 7-0 run by the Greyhounds capped by a block from Kerrigan and Watkins, 16-9. The Tigers couldn't get close and UIndy closed the match with a 4-0 run and won on a Crawford kill.
Wittenberg was led by Jessica Batanian with 13 kills, while Kara Seidenstricker had 12 kills and Christina Gilene led all players with 18 digs.
MATCH 2
The No. 9 Greyhounds (14-2, 6-0 GLVC) were never threatened in downing Kentucky Wesleyan, 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-15), in their return to GLVC play.
Sophomore
Julia Watkins tied her career high with nine kills and hit .692, while adding a match-high five blocks, while junior
Kenzie Bruggeman had a career-high eight kills and hit .438 with six digs and three aces.
Brittany Anglemyer added seven kills with a .462 attack percentage as the Greyhounds hit .322 against the Panthers (4-12, 0-6 GLVC), while holding them to .000 attacking.
KWC was led by Nikki Jenkins with five kills and five digs.
UIndy hosts Southern Indiana on Saturday at 3 p.m.
