Greyhounds fall 3-2 at McKendree

Box Score

LEBANON, Ill. – The No. 25 UIndy volleyball squad fell to McKendree 3-2 Saturday (29-27, 16-25, 13-25, 26-24, 15-12), snapping a seven-match winning streak.

The Greyhounds (11-6, 7-2 GLVC) dropped a marathon first set to fall behind on the road. From there, it looked as if the Hounds would cruise to their eighth straight conference match as they handled sets two and three. Instead, the Bearcats (5-13, 3-6 GLVC) responded with a crucial win in the fourth set.

"We didn't close the door when we had the chance at the end of the fourth," said coach Jason Reed. "This was a back and forth match and when you get to the fifth set it's up for grabs."

As a team, the Hounds hit just .139, with only two players hitting over .300 (minimum five attacks). UIndy also finished with 31 offensive errors.

"We definitely had opportunities throughout the first four sets to take the victory, but too many mistakes cost us this win," said Reed. "Our hats are off to McKendree who played hard when it counted."

Seniors Kenzie Bruggeman and Brittany Anglemyer finished with 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Hailey Brown recorded 10 kills, while Payton Schultz continued her efficient offensive attack, finishing with nine kills, hitting .350.

Meghan Binkerd facilitated the offense with 53 assists. Freshman Alyssa Garrett recorded 27 digs at the libero position, while Bruggeman (20), Binkerd (17), Brown (15) and Kimberly Trojan (15) all finished with double-digit kills.

The Hounds are in action next against Cedarville on the road Tuesday night.
