Hounds win 8th straight with 2-1 W at WJC

Box Score

LIBERTY, Mo.- The UIndy men's soccer team took its eighth-straight victory, besting William Jewell 2-1 on the final Sunday afternoon of regular season Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

The Greyhounds (12-2-2; 11-1-2 GLVC) scored first, with Brett Greubel notching his second goal of the season in the 37th minute on an assist from Kevin Eggert to send UIndy into the halftime break up 1-0.

After the half, Ngwese Ebangwese put the Hounds up 2-0 with his GLVC-leading 12th score of the season in the 43rd minute. The host Cardinals (6-11-0; 4-10-0 GLVC) would spoil the shutout just before the 87-minute mark, with Chad Newman finding the back of the net to run the final score to 2-1.

Ebangwese had three shots on the day to lead UIndy, which out-shot WJC 12-6 in the match. Christopher Jones made his first career start in goal for the Greyhounds, making three saves in his 90 minutes of work.

UIndy, which sits tied with Quincy atop the GLVC standings, hosts Saint Joseph's in the final regular season action of the year Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. EST.

Quincy holds the tiebreaker over the Greyhounds, by virtue of its 3-2 win over UIndy at Key Stadium Sept. 29. That loss is the last blemish on the Greyhounds' slate, with the team stringing together eight stright victories since that loss to the Hawks, the second-longest win streak in program history to 2011's nine straight.

The top four teams in the GLVC will earn the right to host first-round GLVC Championship matches, which will be held Nov. 3 on the top four campus sites. The semifinal and final matches of the touranment will be held the following weekend (Nov. 8-10) at the site of the highest remaining seed.
