Box Score INDIANAPOLIS – The 24th-ranked UIndy volleyball squad defeated Bellarmine in GLVC play Friday, 3-1 (25-13, 19-25, 25-17, 25-21). The Greyhounds rallied behind about 500 fans in Ruth Lilly Center as part of Homecoming weekend.
UIndy (8-5, 4-1 GLVC) came out on fire, sprinting to a 16-4 lead in the first set. The Hounds hit .278 (compared to Bellarmine's -.028), and got three or more kills from
Becca Lira,
Kenzie Bruggeman,
Hailey Brown and
Julia Watkins.
After dropping the second set to the Knights (7-4, 3-2 GLVC), the Greyhounds took back the momentum, controlling the third and fourth sets from start to finish. UIndy trailed just once in the last two sets to close out the match.
Coach
Jason Reed's balanced offense once again set the tone for the Greyhounds. Bruggeman (16), Brown (11), Lira (10), and Watkins (10) all finished with double-digit kills, feeding off of
Meghan Binkerd's 54 assists. Watkins hit a season-high .833, with 10 kills on 12 attempts. Lira,
Brittany Anglemyer and
Payton Schultz all hit over .300.
Defensively, freshman
Alyssa Garrett finished with 22 digs, while Binkerd and Brown recorded 11 each.
The Hounds continue play Saturday against Southern Indiana.
