SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Making 27 of 33 free throws, the UIndy women's basketball team escaped the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with a
72-65 win over regional foe Lake Superior State (0-2).
Katy McIntosh once again paced the Hounds with 24 points – two shy of her career high – and added eight rebounds and six assists. McIntosh was responsible for hitting 11 of 13 Greyhound free throws, and finished above 50 percent from the floor (6-of-11) for the fourth time in as many games.
The Greyhounds (3-1) led 27-19 with over five minutes left in the first half, but the Lakers closed the frame on a 12-0 run to lead 31-27 at the break. Â
UIndy shot just 29 percent from the floor in the opening half, and 17 percent (2 of 12) from three-point. The Lakers hit six of their 10 three-point attempts, shooting 46 percent overall.
The Greyhounds pulled back into the game by deploying a full court press out of the break. UIndy finished with nine steals, and forced 18 Laker turnovers.
With both teams playing an aggressive style, free throws became a large part of the second half. UIndy made 20 of 22 (90 percent) in the half, while the Lakers hit just eight of their 13 attempts (61 percent).
There were nine ties and five lead changes in the second half, but UIndy was able pull away with its effort from the charity stripe.

Carly Lythjohan sank two free throws to put away the Lakers.
The Hounds shot just 32 percent from the floor (20-of-61) and 23 percent from three-point range (5-of-21), but outrebounded the Lakers 43-36, leading to a 19-4 second-chance points advantage.
Shelby Wall scored 11 points for the Hounds, while
Eliza Wortman added 10 points and five rebounds.
Kirsten Gliesmann added eight points while also grabbing eight boards.
