Greyhounds continue to roll in sweep over Southern Indiana

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – UIndy earned its third sweep in a row Friday, taking care of GLVC opponent and regionally ranked Southern Indiana (25-22, 25-16, 25-17).

The Screaming Eagles sat a game ahead of the Hounds in the GLVC East Division standings entering the match, but fell to UIndy for the second time this season. The Crimson and Grey won in five sets in the Ruth Lilly Center Oct. 5.

The Greyhounds (20-9, 14-3 GLVC) used strong finishes in each set to defeat the Screaming Eagles (23-7, 14-3) and push their win streak to six matches.

Down 22-19 in the first game, the Greyhounds rattled off seven straight points to win the set, 25-22. In set two, the Hounds were up 18-15 before going on an 8-1 run to close the door and take a 2-0 match lead.

Set three ended in similar fashion, as UIndy scored the final six points to take the game and match, 25-17.

The Greyhound offense was led by Kenzie Bruggeman (.176 attack percentage) and Hailey Brown (.314), each finishing with 13 kills. The pair also finished with 12 and 11 digs, respectively. Brittany Anglemyer recorded 10 kills, hitting .474. Meghan Binkerd finished with 37 assists to go along with nine digs. The Greyhounds hit .233, compared to just .062 for USI.

Defensively, Kimberly Trojan paced UIndy with 14 digs, while Arielle Knafel tallied 11. Becca Lira had six block assists.

The final regular season match for the Hounds is Saturday at Bellarmine.
