Women's basketball defeats defending champs

Kelly Walter hit five three-pointers to lead the Hounds

ASHLAND, Ohio – The UIndy women's basketball team defeated the defending NCAA D-II Champions and No. 15 Ashland, 85-76, with five players scoring in double digits. The win snapped a 44-game home winning streak for the Eagles.

The Hounds (4-1) shot over 52 percent (30-of-57) for the game, and 43 percent (13-of-30) from three-point land. Kelly Walter led the Greyhounds with 19 points, while Shelby Wall contributed 15 from the bench. The pair combined to hit 10 of UIndy's three-pointers.

UIndy outrebounded the Eagles (1-1), 34-26, and also got 34 bench points compared to just four for Ashland.

Katy McIntosh finished with 12 points, six assists and six rebounds. Princess German recorded 14 points, and Eliza Wortman had 12 points to go along with three boards and a block.

Kirsten Gliesmann played an all-around game, scoring six while grabbing seven rebounds and swatting three shots.

UIndy opens its home slate Saturday against Purdue-Calumet.
