ANAHEIM, Calif. – The UIndy women's basketball team shot just 28 percent from the floor in a 76-48 loss to fifth-ranked Emporia State at the CCA Division II Tip-Off Classic.
Out of the gate, the Greyhounds struggled to find an offensive rhythm, shooting just 25 percent from the floor in the first half. UIndy also managed just one assist to five turnovers in the opening period. The Lady Hornets led 45-24 at the break.
While the second half scoring margin was closer, but the script did not change much, as the Lady Hornets held UIndy to 33 percent (8 of 24) from the floor, including zero three-point baskets in six attempts. The Greyhounds made just eight field goals in each half, and managed only four assists to 17 turnovers for the game.
The Lady Hornets also grabbed 51 rebounds to the Greyhounds' 32, and got 23 points from the bench compared to just four from the Greyhound bench.
The Greyhound defense stepped up in the second period, limiting Emporia State to 22 percent shooting after allowing over 50 percent in the first half, giving up just one three-pointer in 16 attempts.
Katy McIntosh paced the Greyhounds with 21 points, accounting for about 45 percent of the UIndy offense. The senior shot an even 50 percent from the floor (8 of 16), and chipped in three rebounds, three steals and a pair of assists.
Sophomore
Princess German totaled 12 points, in large part due to her 8 for 10 effort at the charity stripe.
Kirsten Gliesmann led UIndy with eight boards.
Despite setting the program record last year with 6.2 blocks per game, the Greyhounds recorded zero against Emporia State.
The Hounds continue play at the Tip-Off Saturday against Montana State-Billings.
