Box Score INDIANAPOLIS – Sunday's match against Quincy was supposed to be designated as "Senior Day," but senior
Brittany Anglemyer couldn't wait to steal the spotlight when the No. 21 Truman State Bulldogs came to Ruth Lilly Center Saturday. With a team-leading 22 kills, Anglemyer recorded critical points throughout the match as the Greyhounds won 3-2 (25-19, 23-25, 25-18, 23-25, 15-13).
In the fifth and decisive game, UIndy and Truman went back and forth as the set featured nine ties and four lead changes. Up 14-13, setter
Meghan Binkerd passed to Anglemyer for the 37th time in the match, and the Eklhart, Ind. native drove it home for her 22nd kill and the win. The Ruth Lilly Center crowd anticipated the play and offered its loudest roar for the match-winning kill.
"Meghan (Binkerd) was getting me the ball, and they were just gorgeous sets, so it was easy to put them away," said Anglemyer. "A big part of getting the ball was because of that efficiency, I was able to find the spots to put away the ball."
Anglemyer hit .568, her second highest mark this season.
"Brittany was consistent, she was aggressive, and really they didn't have an answer for her, especially in transition," said coach
Jason Reed. "We ended up finishing with her in the front row to finish out the match, and that was definitely by design."
For her part, Binkerd finished the match with 64 assists and 16 digs. Senior
Kenzie Bruggeman recorded 17 kills and 26 digs. Both tallied their 13th double-doubles of the season. Sophomore
Hailey Brown totaled 15 kills, and freshman
Becca Lira added 10. Junior
Kimberly Trojan had 26 digs, and sophomore
Arielle Knafel finished with 17.
The Greyhounds took a 2-1 match lead, hitting .316, .317 and .354 in the opening three games. Opening the fourth set on a 5-0 run, it looked like UIndy might cruise to a four-set victory. The Bulldogs (18-9, 11-3 GLVC) stormed back to win a close set and force the fifth frame.
Despite dropping the set, UIndy (17-9, 11-3) won the fifth set by a slim margin, defeating its second Top-25 opponent of the season. The Greyhounds hit .296 for the match, their second highest percentage this season, and recorded 101 digs.
"For whoever won this match it was a big win, regionally," said Reed. "At this time of the year these wins are huge for the ranking implication."
Currently, Truman State and UIndy are ranked seventh and eighth, respectively, in the NCAA Midwest Region Ranking.
"I was really impressed with the match tonight on both sides, it was a fun match to coach," continued Reed.
UIndy is back in action Sunday against Quincy at the Ruth Lilly Center.
