Walter leads UIndy in 72-63 win over Trevecca Nazarene

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Kelly Walter scored 18 and three others reached double figures as the Greyhounds defeated the Trevecca Nazarene Trojans, 72-63, in Nashville, Tenn. The victory moved UIndy to 5-0 against regional opponents.

UIndy (8-2) controlled the game from the tip, as Princess German opened the scoring with a layup, giving the Greyhounds a 2-0 lead they would not relinquish.

Walter, who hit a career-best six three-pointers last season against the Trojans, fell one short of tying her mark Wednesday night. She finished 5-for-8 from behind the arc, reaching five triples for the second time this year.

Katy McIntosh tied a career high with nine assists, and once again led an aggressive UIndy offense, reaching the free throw line for 12 attempts. The Greyhounds shot over 30 freebies for the third time this season, and hit 23 compared to 10 for TNU (5-4).

UIndy shot 44 percent in the first half, compared to just 33 for TNU. Up 10-6, the Greyhounds got back-to-back threes from Walter to widen the margin to double digits. The Trojans would trim the lead to six by half time, with UIndy leading 34-28.

The Greyhounds built their lead back up in the second, and with 5:39 remaining Walter hit a three to give UIndy its largest lead, 62-46.

UIndy's 2-3 zone defense held the Trojans to 39 percent (24-of-61) from the floor. The Greyhounds have now held three consecutive opponents under 40 percent shooting.

Senior Shelby Wall totaled 10 points, going 2-for-3 from three-point land while hitting all four free throw attempts. Eliza Wortman also pitched in 10 points, to go along with eight boards and a pair of blocks.

UIndy closes out its 2013 calendar Dec. 22 against Grand Valley State in Nicoson Hall at 2 p.m.
