INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy women's basketball team closed the 2013 slate with a resounding 91-52 win over visiting Grand Valley State Sunday in Nicoson Hall.

Both teams struggled offensively in the opening seven minutes, but the next seven-minute stretch was a different story for the Crimson and Grey. Up 9-7 with 13 minutes remaining in the first, the Greyhounds (9-2) used a 23-8 run to double up GVSU (5-3, 3-1 GLIAC), 32-15, by the six-minute mark. UIndy added 21 more points to close out the half and lead 53-23 at the break.

UIndy used a familiar recipe to build the first half lead, getting to the free throw line 12 times, hitting 10, while sinking 5-of-8 from three-point territory. Coming into the game, the Greyhounds averaged 17.9 made free throws and 7.9 threes per contest.

The Greyhounds were hot from the floor in the opening frame, going 19-for-31 (61 percent), led by Katy McIntosh's 18 points on 6-for-9 shooting. GVSU managed to hit just nine of their 36 field goals (25 percent).

The Hounds weren't the only ones connecting from deep. During half time, Santa banked in a half-court shot to win free Penn Station subs for a year.

Although the second half played much more evenly, the Lakers could not overcome the 30-point half time deficit. UIndy again shot over 50 percent (12-22), and matched its 10-of-12 first-half effort from the free throw line.

The Lakers tried to shoot the Hounds out of their 2-3 zone defense throughout the contest, but went just 5-for-23 (22 percent) from behind the arc, and 19-for-64 (30 percent) overall. It was the fourth straight game the Greyhounds held their opponents to under 40 percent shooting.

McIntosh led the Greyhounds with 21 points, and added five rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals. Kelly Walter continued her impressive clip from long range, going 4-for-8 from three-point land, and totaling 16 points for the game. Senior Rose Savela chipped in 12 points in 18 minutes off the bench, and Kirsten Gliesmann finished with nine points and 12 boards.

The Greyhounds out-rebounded the Lakers 48-28, and got scoring contributions from 11 of the 12 that saw action.

The victory moved the Hounds to 6-0 in regional games, and 4-0 against the GLIAC.

UIndy is off until a Jan. 3, when it begins conference play at Missouri S&T.
