Baseball splits day one at Bellarmine

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

LOUISVILLE- The Greyhounds opened a day one of their series at Bellarmine by splitting with the host Knights. BU took game one 12-2 before UIndy notched an 8-1 victory in the nightcap.

GAME ONE: Bellarmine 12 - UIndy 2 (7 inn.)
Tyler O'Daniel opened the UIndy (18-17; 10-14 GLVC) second inning with a home run to left to put the Hounds up 1-0, but that would be the lone advantage of the game for the visitors as Bellarmine (20-16; 15-9 GLVC) put up a single run in the bottom of the inning and 11 more in the next five frames to take the victory via the 10-run rule.

A Nick Whitty sacrifice fly in the Greyhound sixth would bring home the other UIndy run, as Hugo Lalonde (3-4) suffered the loss. Dan Eliopulos was 2-for-2 at the plate as the Hound DH in the loss.

GAME TWO: UIndy 8 - Bellarmine 1
The Greyhounds found their bats in game two, hanging eight runs on 13 hits to take the win. UIndy scored once in the top of the first, with a Jake Hartley single bringing home Jake Weinzapfel. The Hounds added two more in the second, with a double from Caleb Hallman and single from Anthony Asalon bringing in the two runs.

Another Hallman double in the fourth plated another Greyhound run, followed by a Hartley two-run homer in the fifth to push UIndy ahead 6-1.

O'Daniel and Thomas provided back-to-back RBI singles in the top of the seventh to close out the score at 8-1. Hallman led the Hounds with three hits, while the junior added two RBI. Hartley led with three runs batted in on the contest. Matt Pate (2-2) earned the win, scattering five hits in the seven-inning complete game effort.

UIndy and Bellarmine close out the series Sunday with another GLVC doubleheader. First pitch from Louisville is slated for noon.
