Box Score
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Coming off ten straight wins, the 14th-ranked UIndy Greyhounds (14-3, 5-1 GLVC) dropped a
73-44 decision on the road against Southern Indiana (11-3, 5-2).
The GLVC's best shooting team was stonewalled Saturday in Evansville, connecting on just 17 of 66 shots (26 percent). Entering the game the Hounds shot 49 percent for the season, and just two games ago hit 64 percent from the floor.
Instead, shots of all varieties were missing their mark. UIndy – the only team in the country ranked in the top 15 in field goal, 3-point and free throw percentage – went 5-for-27 (19 percent) from long range and 5-for-10 from the charity stripe.
It started early, with the Hounds missing seven of their first eight shots, falling behind 9-2 over five minutes into the contest. It didn't get much easier for UIndy, as the Screaming Eagles had a 35-19 lead at the break, holding the Hounds to a season-low first half output. Â
Despite a couple of second-half runs, the Greyhounds weren't able to get the margin any closer than 35-49. The 44-point performance is the lowest of the season for the Greyhounds, who averaged 80.4 points coming into the game.
Southern Indiana, on the other hand, shot 46 percent, including a 14-for-26 (53 percent) performance in the second half. The Screaming Eagles, without the GLVC's leading scorer, Anna Hackert, sank 11 of 13 freebies and out-rebounded the Hounds 50-37.
Princess German was the Hounds' only double-figure scorer, totaling 16 points on 6-14 shooting.
Eliza Wortman finished with nine boards, six blocks and a pair of steals, and
Dajana Jovanovic tallied five points and four rebounds.
UIndy's leading scorer,
Katy McIntosh, had an uncharacteristic game, scoring just two points on 1-6 from the floor. The 5-8 senior ranks in the top ten all-time in points and free throws for the Greyhounds, but had a rare cold game on the scoreboard. Sharp-shooting
Shelby Wall also hit a slump, missing all four of her three-point attempts and her first free throw of the season.
The Greyhounds have an opportunity to put this game in the rearview mirror with a game Monday night against Saint Joseph's in Nicoson Hall. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
