Box Score

INDIANAPOLIS – No. 22 UIndy dropped an 87-75 decision at home against No. 11 Quincy in Nicoson Hall Saturday afternoon.

After briefly holding a lead in the opening minutes, the Greyhounds (20-6, 11-4 GLVC) played catch-up for the final 37 minutes of the game. Quincy (21-2, 14-1) won its 11th game behind a career-high-tying 24 points from Hannah Weedman and a season high 23 from Lucy Cramsey.

The tempo was set early as the teams combined to go 7-7 from the floor in the opening minutes. By the first media break the Hawks held a 14-10 lead and had missed just one shot.

The Greyhounds couldn't keep pace after the first timeout, hitting a 1-for-10 shooting skid that allowed Quincy to build a 22-10 lead. Cramsey sparked the Hawks on both sides of the floor, wreaking havoc on the perimeter on defense and accounting for six of first eight QU field goals (two baskets, four assists).

UIndy wouldn't be shut out for long. Down 29-20 at the second media break, the Greyhounds went on a 12-5 run to force a timeout from Quincy coach Jeni Garber.

The Hounds' effort culminated on a Princess German and-one that tied the game at 40-40 with just over a minute left in the half. Despite several opportunities on the offensive end of the floor, UIndy never regained the lead.

Despite the sluggish start, the Greyhounds finished the half an even 50 percent from the floor (14-28), including a 5-of-13 clip from three-point range. Kelly Walter played a large role in the Hounds' first half comeback, scoring all 11 of her points in the half after the 10-minute mark.

QU shot even better than the Greyhounds, hthough, hitting 17-of-33 (.515) and a stellar 6-of-12 from long range. Cramsey hit three triples, and led all scorers with 14 at the break. Her step-back three gave the Hawks a 45-40 lead heading into halftime.

The second half played much like the first, with the Hawks maintaining a slight lead the entire 20 minutes. Several times UIndy climbed back to pull within a couple buckets, but QU had an answer each time. The closest UIndy got was 62-58 at the 11-min mark.

Shelby Wall made things interesting in the waning minutes, hitting back-to-back threes to keep the Hounds in it, but Quincy sank 10-10 free throws in the final 70 seconds to ensure the victory. The Hawks finished the game 23-for-26 (.885) from the charity stripe.

Surrendering offensive boards doomed the Hounds, as QU racked up 16 offensive rebounds resulting in 18 second-chance points. The Hawks had a 42-32 overall rebounding advantage, and notched 22 points on 17 Greyhound turnovers.

German and Walter each finished with 13 points to lead the Greyhounds, and Wall totaled 12 points on four triples. Eliza Wortman recorded 11 points, three rebounds, three blocks and two steals. Kirsten Gliesmann swatted four shots, pulled in five boards and had three steals. Megan Birchmeier chipped in seven points on 3-for-3 shooting to go along with a season-high-tying four dimes.

The Hounds finished the game with a higher field goal percentage than the Hawks (.467 to .424) on an equal amount of field goals, but QU's work from the free throw line proved to be the difference.

UIndy hosts Southern Indiana and Bellarmine next week in the final two home games of the regular season.
