SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – UIndy baseball dropped the final two games in their non-conference four-game series at Drury by scores of 3-0 and 7-1.

GAME ONE: Drury 3, UIndy 0

Drury (5-2) got a strong start from Trevor Richards (2-0), who struck out seven Greyhound batters while walking none and giving up just three hits in the first game of the doubleheader.

Drury got on the board first in the bottom of the third inning, stringing three consecutive singles off of UIndy starter Josh Witt (0-1). Nick Thimesch drove in Colton Jones to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead.

The Greyhounds (3-7) threatened in the top of the fourth, as Alex Ritchie was hit by a pitch and Joe Trennepohl singled to put a runner in scoring position. With two outs and two on, Richards fanned Kenny Mahala to end the frame.

The Panthers struck again in the bottom of the sixth, piecing together a two-out rally to score twice. After Witt retired the first two batters, Luke Tewes singled and Ryan Colombo drew a walk. Tyler Arthur capitalized by doubling to left center, plating both runners and giving Drury a 3-0 advantage.

With one out in the Greyhounds' final at-bat, David Gunst doubled down the left field line, but Ethan Mather sat down the next two batters to earn his first save of the season.

Witt finished with six innings pitched, giving up eight hits and three earned runs while striking out four.

GAME TWO: Drury 7, UIndy 1

The Panthers scored first in the series finale, taking a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first on the strength of Payton Reed's two-run homer off of UIndy starter Connor Mailloux (0-1).

Drury extended the lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the third with RBIs from Tewes and Colombo. Mailloux got out of the inning with two stranded to avoid further damage.

UIndy finally got on the board in the top of the fourth, as Ritchie and Zach Jacobs led off the frame with back-to-back singles. Consecutive fielder's choices quickly gave Drury two outs, but Gunst delivered an RBI single to bring the Hounds within 5-1.

Even with the run, Drury starter Cole Faulconer faced just one more than the minimum through four innings. He would finish with four strikeouts across six innings of work on the mound.

The Panthers tacked on two more in the bottom of the sixth, with Reed picking up his third RBI of the game.

Mailloux, UIndy's freshman from Windsor, Ontario, pitched three innings in his first collegiate start, giving up five runs. Ryan Byrne, Scott Mitchell and Bob Kwekel combined to pitch the final three innings.

Ritchie and Gunst each finished with two hits in the loss for UIndy. Drury outhit the Hounds 13-5 in the series finale, and 42-21 in the four-game sweep.

The Greyhounds face Augustana (4-3) in a neutral-site contest tomorrow in Evansville, Ind., with first pitch set for 1 p.m. ET. UIndy returns for the home opener Wednesday in a doubleheader against Kentucky State (1-18, 0-4 SIAC) at 12 p.m.
