Hounds fall in midweek match at Wheeling Jesuit, 3-0

WHEELING, W.V. - The UIndy volleyball team dropped a midweek affair at No. 11 Wheeling Jesuit 3-0 Wednesday evening by scores of 27-25, 25-17 and 25-20.

The Greyhounds (1-4) -- facing their fourth nationally-ranked squad of the young season -- went toe-to-toe with the Cardinals (4-1) for the entire first set, as neither team had more than a four point lead. Tied 25-25, WJU scored twice in a row to seal the set.

UIndy was a step behind for the final two sets, trailing a majority of the remainder of the match. WJU hit .213 (44-15-136) in the win, compared to UIndy's .154 (42-22-130), and disrupted the Hounds' attack with seven total blocks on the night.

Newcomer Natalie Wichern totaled a personal collegiate-high 37 assists and 10 digs in the loss, recording her first double-double. The Butler transfer added three kills and a block assist.

Sophomore Hailey Brown racked up 15 kills and nine digs, and led the Greyhounds with a .227 attack percentage (minimum five attempts). Seniors Arielle Knafel  and Kimberly Trojan finished with 15 and 11 digs, respectively.

The Cardinals were led by Haley Kindall and Emma Schleucher, who each tallied double-digit kills.

UIndy opens the conference and home slate this Saturday at 5 p.m. against visiting Drury (5-0) and Missouri S&T (1-4) Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Ruth Lilly Center.
