Box Score

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UIndy and Rockhurst volleyball squads each entered Sunday's tilt riding three consecutive sweeps to start the GLVC season, but the Hawks prevailed over the Hounds 3-1 (26-24, 25-22, 23-25, 25-20) in Kansas City in a close contest.

The Greyhounds (4-5, 3-1 GLVC) swept past Drury, Missouri S&T and William Jewell prior to their match against RU, and likewise the Hawks (8-0, 4-0 GLVC) rolled over Bellarmine, Southern Indiana and Saint Joseph's to start the conference slate.

In the battle of the conference-unbeatens, Rockhurst edged UIndy by winning three of the first four sets, all by five points or less.

RU sophomore Morgan Rietzke, last season's GLVC Freshman of the Year, helped separate the Hawks from the Hounds in an otherwise narrow match. She led both teams with 20 kills, hitting .306 (20-9-49) along the way. The Hawks also got double-digit kills from Katie Loescher (14) and Maggie Hummel (11), and 57 assists from Whitney Kostal.

The Greyhounds were once again led in kills by junior Hailey Brown, who tallied 16 kills on 31 swings (.387). Senior Arielle Knafel posted a stellar line of 15 kills/0 errors/28 attempts for a .536 attack percentage. Brown (16 digs) and Knafel (10) each finished with double-doubles.

Senior Meghan Binkerd dished a season-high 48 assists to go along with 10 digs, good for her sixth double-double in eight matches. Senior Kimberly Trojan led UIndy with 22 digs.

UIndy hits the road again next weekend to face Bellarmine and Southern Indiana.
