Box Score LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Five wins, five sweeps. The UIndy volleyball squad pulled out another 3-0 victory Friday night, topping the Bellarmine Knights 25-16, 25-22, and 28-26 in Knights Hall. Â
The Greyhounds (5-5, 4-1 GLVC) – coming off a spirited 3-1 loss at Rockhurst last weekend – sprinted out of the gate in the opening set, winning 25-16.
Bellarmine (4-5, 1-4 GLVC) fought to make the second set a closer affair, but again UIndy prevailed, 25-22.
Down 2-0, the Knights looked to force a fourth set and took a 20-16 lead late in the game. UIndy eventually found itself down on set point, 25-24, but back-to-back kills from
Hailey Brown and
Hannah Bauer gave the Hounds the 26-25 advantage. The UIndy surge continued, leading to the eventual 28-26 match-clinching decision.
"We were a little out of sorts tonight, but I think that's the mark of a good team that can grind out wins," second-year Head Coach
Jason Reed said after the match. "We had to really battle in the last set and had a lot of serving mistakes which made it tough."
He continued: "In the end, I really liked our poise and am proud to get the win."
For the fourth match in a row Brown led the Greyhounds with 13 kills, hitting .407 (13-2-27). She also added 13 digs, good for her fourth double-double of the season.
Bauer followed with nine kills, and
Becca Lira (seven kills),
Julia Watkins (six) and
Lynsey Hazelwood (five) also contributed to the Hounds' attack.
UIndy's offense was facilitated by
Meghan Binkerd's 34 assists. The Greyhound senior also notched her seventh double-double with 10 digs.
Kimberly Trojan added 10 digs for UIndy, and
Arielle Knafel finished with nine.
As a team, the Greyhounds hit .270 compared to Bellarmine's .171, and finished with 45 kills to the Knights' 37.
UIndy faces Southern Indiana (6-3, 2-2 GLVC) Saturday at 4 p.m. ET.
