Box Score 2 TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 24 UIndy volleyball team opened its season in the Tampa Classic Friday, splitting a pair of matches versus 2013 NCAA Tournament teams. The Greyhounds began the day with a 3-0 loss to fifth-ranked Central State, followed by a straight-set victory against Tusculum in the night cap.

vs. Central MissouriBox ScoreThe Greyhounds first went up against the highly-ranked Jennies, falling 3-0 (29-27, 25-20, 27-25) while pushing two sets past 25 points.

CMU capitalized by winning a narrow opening set, 29-27, despite the Hounds' .295 hitting clip. Down 17-11, UIndy stormed back to take a late 24-23 lead, but ended up losing the extra-point battle.

Central Missouri was led by redshirt-sophomore Haley Thompson, who finished with 22 kills and a blistering .656 hitting average (22-1-32). Carly Sojka tallied 13 kills, and was the only other to record more than five kills for Central Missouri.

UIndy was led in kills by newcomer
Lynsey Hazelwood. In her first match since transferring from UT-Martin, the Louisville, Ky., native totaled 10 kills and hit .318 (10-3-22).
Becca Lira (nine kills) and
Hailey Brown (eight) were also a large part of the Hounds' attack, and Lira also had a solo block and three block assists.

Meghan Binkerd finished with 35 assists and 11 digs, and libero
Kimberly Trojan tallied 20 digs to lead UIndy.

vs. TusculumBox ScoreUIndy cruised past the Pioneers in the minimum three sets (25-12, 25-12, 25-19), holding them to just 12 points in each of the first two.

Tusculum battled to a 17-17 tie in the third game, but the Hounds scored eight of the final 10 points to seal the sweep. The Pioneers finished the match with a mere .117 hitting percentage, compared to a solid .376 percentage from the Hounds.

Hailey Brown killed 16 balls on 28 swings (.438) while adding 11 digs for her 21st career double-double. Senior
Kimberly Trojan again racked up 20 digs and sophomore
Natalie Wichern added 26 assists.

The Tampa Classic continues tomorrow when the Greyhounds face in-region and 13th-ranked Ferris State at 2:30 p.m., followed by the No. 2 and host Spartans at 7 p.m.
